Board Exam: T minus 2 months, 18 days!

I nearly had a heart attack writing the title of this post! Less than 3 months and I will be free from studying, having taken my board exam. I think the worst part about this is that there is so much to learn so you have to start studying really early (ie January). By studying ridiculously early, you only increase the amount of time to fret over the fact that you are still getting conditions confused with one another 4 months in to studying the darn things and how you are obviously going to fail!

Praise God that He offers relief from this fear and worrying! Here are a few verses that have provided me some relief from my constant worry:

Matthew 6:34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Isaiah 55:9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

I hope to get better at this blogging thing but improvement will probably not happen until after August 20th (BE-Day). Bring it on!

No more excuses...they are lame anyway!

Wow! It has been nearly a month since my last post...I have not excuse other than laziness. I would like to say that I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off or so deep in studying that I did not even have time to think about posting, but that was not the case. Honestly, I have been spending some good quality time with Aaron...and...CSI! We are totally hooked! 2 and a half seasons in 3 months = obsessed!

I have also slacked on my running, which I am really bummed about. I was up to 50 minutes for Saturday runs but after the snow storms here in the 'Burgh and my talent of using that as a reason not to run for far to long, I am back down to 2 30 minute runs and this Saturday will be 40 minutes. At least my race is in September so I have plenty of time to gain the time back.

Aaron and I have been making great head way on our push-ups and sit-ups! I did 6 push-ups in a row the other night! Yay!

On my alone runs (the runs I do without Aaron or a running partner), I really try to take the time to focus on God and thank him for the body he blessed me with. I mean, think about it! So many things could have gone terribly wrong in the past 25 years of my life, not to even get in to while I was being knit together in my mother's womb. Have you thanked God for the body He has blessed you with? When I really think about it and let God speak to my heart, I am mystified at how my legs move, my lungs take in more oxygen, my heart continues to pump, I can see where I am going and hear the birds that are now singing in the trees. It is a beautiful experience when I stop to notice it. Well, on the last half of my run, I had some time with God and He really melted my heart. I am a talker, an asker, a pleader so I decided to just run and listen. Man oh man! God is so awesome! He melted my heart and spoke to me and knew what I needed on that day.

Be sure to take some time to get out in the sunshine! After all the snow we have had here in Pittsburgh, it is nice to see that nothing is falling from the sky and we can feel warmth on our face. I find the sun to be a great reminder of God's love and light He shines in to our life. What is even better is that God's love has not shadows! He reaches to all the dark places and casts out the darkness with His glory, mercy, and love.

This is SNOW cool!

Wow! They were not kidding when they said the snow would be a'comin! On Saturday on the mountain, we got enough snow to go up to my mid-thigh, which is a little over 2 feet! Needless to say, I was not able to go on my run that I was so looking forward to. There is almost nothing like running on fresh snow while the sane people sit in their warm homes and drink hot chocolate. It was officially declared the 4th worst snow storm in Pittsburgh history! Fun! Here is a picture of our humble abode buried in the snow. I was at least able to shovel out our stairs...

Unfortunately, I have not been able to get out for a run since last week and it looks like it will be a while longer as we are currently getting more snow (an additional 3 inches so far when I was out at 9 am). Good thing that half-marathon is not until September!

So what have I been doing besides drinking hot chocolate (hey, I'll take any excuse!) and studying for my board exam? I have been able to go for some beautiful walks! Saturday was amazing with the fresh snow. I have also been able to walk with my husband to catch public transportation and when he comes home at the end of the day. I love to go for walks with him and I will also take any excuse to do this even though he thinks I'm crazy for even stepping foot out of the house if I do not have to! I have also been doing my push-ups and sit ups. Today I move to the next level and add a couple of each to each set. Yay!

With being snowed in, it makes it a little more difficult to get out and enjoy the outdoors and get your exercise. What can you do if you are snowed in? There are a ton of things! Jumping jacks, literally running around your house, high knees (lift your right arm straight in the air as you bring your left knee up to create a 90 degree angel with your leg and then switch), an exercise video, chase your kids, do baby presses (lift your young one straight in the air. They will think it is a game and you will be strengthening your arms!), push ups, sit ups, etc. The one thing you should not do, which is so easy to do, is convince yourself that you don't have to do anything because it is snowing. I end up feeling like a blob when this is my mentality. Plus, it just inhibits my productivity for the rest of the day. Boo!

So, today I have already gone for a walk and I will be bumping up my push-ups and sit-ups as well as watch 3 lectures on biochemical genetics, cleaning my desk (today's challenge from Home Sanctuary) and washing the floors! Busy day! I better hop to it! I hope you'll join me!

And we're off!

Wow! I am always amazed how quickly time goes by when you want it to slow down. Some times it feels like time is not constant, which is weird. Anyway, I digress.

I am still getting used to this blogging thing. Hence my initial comment. It amazes me that my last post was on Jan 30 and it is already Feb 5. Where did the time go?

Well, I'll tell you. Saturday was my sister's musical and she did AWESOME!!! Man, to think that voice came out of my baby sister just knocks me back. My quiet, reserved, laid-back sister rocked (and I mean ROCKED) Aretha Franklins "I will survive" with soul and then brought tears with Celine Dion's "A new day." Sunday we tried out a new church in Michigan. Aaron and I realized how blessed we are by our church family and pastors. They truly speak the word of God as they are commanded and I am so grateful for that. We also hung out with my parents and brother and his fiance. Monday was Mommy and Jenny day while Aaron slept in. There were so really awesome deals at Kohl's! Then it was off to LVOP in Pittsburgh on Monday night, CSI with Aaron on Tuesday, Pioneers on Wednesday, babysitting the Joshua on Thursday and now I sit alone as my husband braves the snow with a bunch of high schoolers on their way to snow camp. Crazy? I think yes.

So with all this going on, how has my exercising been? Well, honestly, not the best though present. Saturday was my longest run...ever! 50 full minutes of beautiful, lightly snow covered, FLAT ground! Oh Michigan, you claim hills but you have no idea! I would say my distance was probably 4.5 to 5 miles, which is almost half of my goal! hooray! Sunday is always my day off. Lord has declared it the Sabath day and His children are to rest. I feel convicted that means study His word, attend church and small group, and rest. I did more push-ups and sit ups on Tuesday. Other than that, my efforts have been weak. I was going to go out tonight, but this giant snow storm decided to come and play in Pittsburgh so I resolve to study and sit on the couch with some hot chocolate! Yummy! Since I can't go outside to work out, I'll work more on my push-up and sit up goal. Maybe I'll have a six-pack by summer! maybe.

Tomorrow's running goal is to run at least 50 minutes. Since I will be running in the mountain, I need to account for the hills. We'll see how that goes.

I wish I lived in a warm place...

Success!

Tuesday: 25 minutes of indoor cardio (I just couldn't convince myself to run outside): jumping jacks, running literally around the house, knee raises, etc. 2-3-2-2-4 pushups, 9-9-6-6-8 sit ups and 9-9-6-6-8 squats.

Wednesday: 30 minute outdoor run. It was rough and freezing! I was so happy to get back inside!

Thursday and Friday were not so much a success though. Thursday was a lazy night along with packing and studying. boo. Friday, Aaron and I traveled from Pittsburgh to Michigan's for my sister's play! Yay Cece!

This morning, I am trying to talk myself in to a run. Pros: flat ground! Cons: COLD! Well, the calling of "we have no hills" is screaming pretty loud and calling me out so I believe it is going to happen. However, I believe if the weather could always be 65 and partly cloudy. That would be the perfect running situation. Not going to happen in either PA or MI. Oh well, guess I'll just have to get use to it. In the summer, I want it to be colder and in the winter, I want it to be warmer. It sounds like life.

Our pastor gave a really great sermon on being content with the life and lot God has given you. It was a great reminder for me that the Lord has me in this exact spot in life for a reason. Since His plan is perfect, it is a really good reason that He has me here.

And in 15 minutes, He will have me outside for a run.

First post...ever!

Hi all!

I have heard Romans 12:1 many times before and it never clicked until I turned on the TV one day in mid-January, 2010. Beth Moore was speaking on how easy it is for us (women especially) to make food/exercise/appearance our idol and not even realize it! Until that day, I had not really thought about worshiping Him while I exercise rather than becoming obsessed with when, where, how.

Lots of people think you need to take at least an hour out of your day and go for an exhausting run to call it working out or exercising! Not so my friends! Oh happy day! Something as little (and fun) as doing jumping jacks while your little one laughs at you or doing wall sits or sit ups during the commercials of your favorite show can help!

In caring for the vessel our God created for us in His image, we can worship Him and turn this (sad face) exercise in to (happy face) an act of praise!

Hopefully this blog will help me be accountable to you, encourage you, and give you some ideas.

So what have I been up to? Well, I decided to run my first half-marathon in September! eek! Good thing I have about 8 and a half months to train because I am going to need it! Aaron (my wonderful husband) and I have been doing the 100 push up challenge. We modify it a little since I am a weakling and am sore the day after doing the 2-2-3-2 set. Not a good sign. We are also thinking about starting on the 200 sit up challenge and maybe the 200 squat challenge. We are a challenge couple. Give us a goal, and we will meet it. No goal, well, then it probably won't happen. I'm just being honest.

Well, that is all I have to say for my very first post ever! Yeah, ever!

Today's work-out: push ups, sit ups and cardio (walk, jumping jacks or something of the sort) with Aaron
