This is SNOW cool!

Wow! They were not kidding when they said the snow would be a'comin! On Saturday on the mountain, we got enough snow to go up to my mid-thigh, which is a little over 2 feet! Needless to say, I was not able to go on my run that I was so looking forward to. There is almost nothing like running on fresh snow while the sane people sit in their warm homes and drink hot chocolate. It was officially declared the 4th worst snow storm in Pittsburgh history! Fun! Here is a picture of our humble abode buried in the snow. I was at least able to shovel out our stairs...

Unfortunately, I have not been able to get out for a run since last week and it looks like it will be a while longer as we are currently getting more snow (an additional 3 inches so far when I was out at 9 am). Good thing that half-marathon is not until September!

So what have I been doing besides drinking hot chocolate (hey, I'll take any excuse!) and studying for my board exam? I have been able to go for some beautiful walks! Saturday was amazing with the fresh snow. I have also been able to walk with my husband to catch public transportation and when he comes home at the end of the day. I love to go for walks with him and I will also take any excuse to do this even though he thinks I'm crazy for even stepping foot out of the house if I do not have to! I have also been doing my push-ups and sit ups. Today I move to the next level and add a couple of each to each set. Yay!

With being snowed in, it makes it a little more difficult to get out and enjoy the outdoors and get your exercise. What can you do if you are snowed in? There are a ton of things! Jumping jacks, literally running around your house, high knees (lift your right arm straight in the air as you bring your left knee up to create a 90 degree angel with your leg and then switch), an exercise video, chase your kids, do baby presses (lift your young one straight in the air. They will think it is a game and you will be strengthening your arms!), push ups, sit ups, etc. The one thing you should not do, which is so easy to do, is convince yourself that you don't have to do anything because it is snowing. I end up feeling like a blob when this is my mentality. Plus, it just inhibits my productivity for the rest of the day. Boo!

So, today I have already gone for a walk and I will be bumping up my push-ups and sit-ups as well as watch 3 lectures on biochemical genetics, cleaning my desk (today's challenge from Home Sanctuary) and washing the floors! Busy day! I better hop to it! I hope you'll join me!

And we're off!

Wow! I am always amazed how quickly time goes by when you want it to slow down. Some times it feels like time is not constant, which is weird. Anyway, I digress.

I am still getting used to this blogging thing. Hence my initial comment. It amazes me that my last post was on Jan 30 and it is already Feb 5. Where did the time go?

Well, I'll tell you. Saturday was my sister's musical and she did AWESOME!!! Man, to think that voice came out of my baby sister just knocks me back. My quiet, reserved, laid-back sister rocked (and I mean ROCKED) Aretha Franklins "I will survive" with soul and then brought tears with Celine Dion's "A new day." Sunday we tried out a new church in Michigan. Aaron and I realized how blessed we are by our church family and pastors. They truly speak the word of God as they are commanded and I am so grateful for that. We also hung out with my parents and brother and his fiance. Monday was Mommy and Jenny day while Aaron slept in. There were so really awesome deals at Kohl's! Then it was off to LVOP in Pittsburgh on Monday night, CSI with Aaron on Tuesday, Pioneers on Wednesday, babysitting the Joshua on Thursday and now I sit alone as my husband braves the snow with a bunch of high schoolers on their way to snow camp. Crazy? I think yes.

So with all this going on, how has my exercising been? Well, honestly, not the best though present. Saturday was my longest run...ever! 50 full minutes of beautiful, lightly snow covered, FLAT ground! Oh Michigan, you claim hills but you have no idea! I would say my distance was probably 4.5 to 5 miles, which is almost half of my goal! hooray! Sunday is always my day off. Lord has declared it the Sabath day and His children are to rest. I feel convicted that means study His word, attend church and small group, and rest. I did more push-ups and sit ups on Tuesday. Other than that, my efforts have been weak. I was going to go out tonight, but this giant snow storm decided to come and play in Pittsburgh so I resolve to study and sit on the couch with some hot chocolate! Yummy! Since I can't go outside to work out, I'll work more on my push-up and sit up goal. Maybe I'll have a six-pack by summer! maybe.

Tomorrow's running goal is to run at least 50 minutes. Since I will be running in the mountain, I need to account for the hills. We'll see how that goes.
